Jazz Holiday and Stone Crabs Converge in 2017

Most years, the opening of stone crab season precedes the annual Clearwater Jazz Holiday. This year is unusual as both events will occur at the same time – the third weekend in October.

Both are long-standing traditions. While the jazz festival is no longer free and serves up a line-up of entertainment beyond it’s namesake style, the profits from the event go to promote jazz education.

To kick off stone crab season, the north end of Clearwater Beach is serving them up inside restaurants and also taking things to the street and beyond. The Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar, located directly on the sand overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, will be featuring live music each afternoon and evening from Friday to Sunday during its third annual event. In addition to their regular menu, fresh stone crabs and special menu items showcasing these creatures will be offered. No admission fee. Commemorative shirts will be available in The Palm Shoppe. Regular restaurant hours apply. See their website for details.

The Original Frenchy’s Cafe will hold its 33rd event at the original location on Baymont Street starting at 12:00 noon on Friday and going through Sunday.

Cooters 24th Annual Stone Crab Festival will begin Thursday at 4:00 p.m. and extend through Sunday at 8:00 p.m. The semi-cracked claws will be served with drawn butter or with their signature sauce. They’ll be plenty of music to enjoy.

Due to the stone crab and jazz festivals occurring on the same weekend, visitors are encouraged to take the Jolley Trolley or the Clearwater Ferry Service. City of Clearwater Parking information is also available here.
